Even with as vast as the world as a whole, and the sheer number of supernatural creatures that actually walked the earth, gossip and news traveled quickly. Though it likely helped when you weren't too far from the source location of the gossip that had perked your ears. Quite a few of the supernatural world had heard of Malivore, and had heard that he was dead. Which meant most of the supernatural world had took note of the red sky and the activation of the tribrid. Most wanted nothing to do with the creature that would be more dangerous than any one of her counterparts.
Kernnon wasn't like most of his kind though. Which is why he'd let himself find his way to Mystic Falls to explore the rumor of the tribrid and what she could do. Not that he'd approached her at all. Or really seen her. It's only his second night in the city but he can practically taste the emotions rolling off Lizzie when she gets close to where he'd been out for his own walk.
He's done his research on the school here, on those that are power players within it. The last of the Gemini Coven and their vampire hunter father turned school master. What he hadn't expected was for that vampire hunter to be near death, breaking a lot of the school and distracting them. Though from what he can gather, that was most of the point of what had happened.
Not that he'd let onto what he knew at all either. New in town, it'd be suspicious if he came out knowing anything. Which is why he makes it obvious as he steps out of the shadows of one of the trees, though he's on the path in front of her so it looks like he's just come around the bend of the path in front of her. Nothing weird. His brow arches when he sees her crying, even if he could smell her tears miles off too. "You okay?"
Lizzie hadn't expected to run into anyone on her walk. She hadn't even been thinking that. She was just consumed by her own thoights and worry about what was going to happen to Alaric. And if he died...what would become of all of them. The Salvatore School was needed. All of the supernatural kids could not go unchecked. And there was no telling what would happen if Alaric died. Lizzie could not allow herself to go there.
When she saw him and heard his voice, she brushed the tears away again, sniffling a bit. She didn't know who he was, but she definitely had no desire to appear weak in front of a stranger. Nothing that would make the young siphoner witch seem like easy prey. So she straightened up her stance and studied him for a moment, he was tall and very good looking. Not that she should have been thinking about that at the moment.
"I'm fine." A lie. But she wasn't about to pour her heart out to some random stranger. Mystic Falls was a dangerous place. They'd been through so much lately, with all the monsters. Malivore. It was just a lot. Lizzie didn't trust easily. A smiling face could easily be a foe just as likely as it could be a friend.
Tragedy has a strange way of flitting thoughts and worries across the mind. What ifs, what happens when, things that people aren't sure of for the future. Especially when you're so unsure of the actual future because things are so in flux. He hasn't heard what happened to her father exactly, but if vampire blood can't be used to help him , what about a healing spell of some kind? At least, that would be his potential suggestion if she were looking for an answer.
Then again, the person has to be willing to continue on. They can't give up or the spell isn't worth it.
A lie that was easily heard in the beat of her heart and the scent of her. Though his head cants just a little at her answer too. "It's been my experience that few are find if they're out walking around at this hour." Because this late at night, a pretty thing like her should, by rights, be settled in bed instead of walking around. Let alone crying. "Your eyes show signs of crying too. And that's usually not a sign of being fine either."
Who did this guy think he was making assumptions about who could possibly be out at this hour? Lizzie was less than impressed. Cute or not he did not know her or what she could do. It wasn't as if Lizzie was just some damsel. Hell no. Not ever. She was sassy on a good day and today was definitely not what she'd consider good.
"Oh and you're an expert on this things, are you? Maybe I just wanted to go for a walk." As for why she was crying, that was less than none of his business. Lizzie didn't know him from Adam. And what was he doing out wandering around this late? But no one made assumptions about guys who were out on their own at night, or at least not that they were weak or in need of rescuing. They just thought they were creepy or something.
"So I've been crying, so what?" Okay maybe she was being a little more snarky than she needed to be but he caught her on what might be the worst night of her life. And this was not helping her think. She just wanted to find a way to save Alaric. She didn't need some random guy making assumptions about her.
Someone who had lived more lifetimes over than her, so he has experience with the kinds of women he runs into while he's stalking for a new meal or a fun pet to play with some centuries. And to be fair, she wasn't just out here for an easy stroll. Her emotions were running wild, so she definitely was out not because she liked the night but because something was bothering her. So he's fairly accurate too. Not that she has to tell him that.
Though at her question and the bite in her voice, his hands get held up in front of him. The Universal sign for unarmed or I didn't mean to insult. "I'm not saying you can't just want to go for a walk. But the odds are slim for that being the sole case of being out this late." He hadn't meant to offend, though research only got so far about people he hadn't been able to meet.
"Are you okay?" Because that had been his original question to her, to be fair. He let a hand slide to the back of his head and scratch at his hair. "I didn't mean anything by it, but you look like something's upsetting you." Which, really she can't deny, can she?
Keeping her emotions in check had never been easy. Even with her meds she still had her outbursts. When Lizzie was unstable, she was more dangerous than most because of her powers. And it was safe to say right now she was definitely unstable. But to be fair, anyone who was in her position would be emotional. It was very likely that Alaric Saltzman wouldn't make it through tonight. Maybe he was already gone. But Lizzie wasn't ready to face that.
Lizzie closed her eyes, took a few deep breaths, and centered herself. Then she opened her eyes and studied his nonthreatening stance for a long moment. "I'm sorry," she said. "It's been a rough night." And it was clear he was reading her like a book despite what she'd said earlier. She wouldn't have believed her either.
What was that expression? It was easier to talk to a stranger than a friend sometimes? Something like that. "My dad is dying. He's in the hospital right now" She finally said. And saying the words aloud caused dizziness to wash over her and she faltered on her feet just a bit. "And it was a friend who put him there." Not a friend anymore. She wanted to kill Hope Mikaelson for what she'd done. She supposed that made her a bad person but she didn't care.
He moves closer when she finally seems to be opening up. It's a slow creep closer, trying not to alarm her but hopefully still keep her at ease. Close enough that when she falters just a little, his hand reaches out to catch her arm in a gentle hold. Though he does remove it once she seems settled on her feet again. Unsure if she'll be able to feel the magic that makes him a vampire with such a small touch or not. "I'm sorry to hear that. Is there nothing they can do to help save him?" Nothing she can do either, really? He'd be curious considering they have more than enough vampires around to fix the body even under the studious watch of the hospital staff.
Excuses can always be made for why someone seemed to miraculously heal, after all. Though with the increase in technology, it's going to be a losing battle soon enough to hide it.
There's a small motion toward one of the benches, a silent question if she wants to sit down to have this conversation. Especially with the way she faltered. Though he's happy to keep her on her feet for the moment. "It must make it all the harder that a friend put him there, though." Which does explain the emotions he can sense from her, the turmoil that seems to be bubbling up raw and free from her. "It's never easy when people closest to us are the ones that cause the pain, intentionally or accidentally." He's had some experience with that kind of thing, and knows how hard it can be to work your way out of the emotions that might blind you into rash choices.
Lizzie definitely got the sensation he was a vampire when he touched her but she also knew that didn't necessarily make him bad. She knew vampires who weren't. Like Kaleb. Well no, Kaleb was...complicated right now. Kaleb had handed Hope over to Malivore and might've been partially responsible for Alaric's current state. Maybe. She couldn't really think about it much right now, it would do nothing to quell her rage. And she had so much of it, just below the surface. She kept it in check most of the time, the meds helped but sometimes, in times like this, she was all rage and pain.
"I don't know if he wants to be saved," Lizzie said. Maybe it was that Alaric thought he deserved this or something. Thought he'd failed Hope. Why did it always feel like Hope came first? It wasn't right. She wanted to believe there was more to it than that, especially after seeing his memories. But it didn't matter. Alaric wasn't fighting.
She nodded and moved over to sit on the bench. "You should get out of Mystic Falls," she suggested. "It's a shit show and it always has been." Kernnon seemed nice enough so far, and he was being kind to her when she was in pain. Hopefully, he'd heed her warning before this place destroyed him too.
